2007 Skyline Ridge 4th of July Picnic

  • SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
  • VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
  • REGISTRATION FORM

Please join us in celebrating the 22nd annual 4th of July parade and picnic sponsored by the Skyline Ridge Neighborhood Association. This is our neighborhood's biggest event of the year and attracts well over 200 residents and guests. It's a great way to meet new neighbors, see old friends, and celebrate Independence Day. The feedback and suggestions from last year have given overwhelming support to continuing the same format including barbeque, games, and live entertainment. We also have a few new additions to our picnic. As always, this is a rain or shine event.

This year we are adding a pie/cake/cookie baking contest. Please bring your favorite home-made pie or other dessert for tasting by our distinguished panel of judges. Categories include “most yummy”, “most patriotic”, “most unique”, and best “kid-made” concoction.

Schedule of events (times approximate):

10am Park set up
Volunteers are needed to help set up tables and canopies, decorate with balloons and streamers.

12 noon Parade
Decorate your trikes, bikes, scooter, dogs, and yourselves for a lively march behind the TVF&R fire truck along Stonehaven Drive to the park. Judges will be on hand to hand out prizes. Please don't park on the street along the parade route until the parade is over.

12:15 Magician
Tim Alexander will be roving through the crowd doing feats of magic and illusion.

12:30 Judging for dessert-baking contest

12:45 Lunch
Back by popular demand, food will be provided by Buster's Barbeque and will include brisket, turkey, chicken, and ribs. Please plan to bring a side dish, salad, or dessert. Last year we needed more side dishes. We will provide ice water and lemonade. You may bring other beverages if you wish.

Live music provided by guitarists Mark Hanson and Greta Pederson.

2:15 Games
Games for kids of all ages to include wacky relay races, tug-of-war, sack races, and a water balloon toss. Giggles the clown will be painting faces.

3:00 Ice cream sundae bar

4:00 Park clean up
Volunteers needed.

Volunteer Opportunities

These events don't just happen, we create them! Lots of help is needed to arrange and run an event of this size. Much of the planning and organization has already been done, but we still need volunteers to help in a variety of ways, especially on the day of the event.

I still need help on several fronts, esp. coordinating the parade, setting up the lunch, and running the games. Please let me know by phone or e-mail if you would like to step forward and take part. Also please let me know if you have large tables or canopies we can use. More large tables will smooth the serving lines and extra canopies provide much appreciated shade.
